In less than two decades of existence, Amazon has emerged as a force not just in online commerce but in the broader world of technology, with 90,000 employees around the world and an ever-expanding footprint in its hometown of Seattle.
But the motivations of the company and Jeff Bezos are often difficult for outsiders to fully comprehend.
That’s one of the reasons we’ve been so engrossed by Brad Stone’s new book, “The Everything Store,” which goes behind-the-scenes at the company to tell the story of Amazon. Along the way, Stone finds Bezos’ biological father, reveals new information about Amazon’s history, and offers an inside look at how the company operates under the leadership of its CEO and founder.
Brad Stone is our guest this week on the GeekWire radio show, talking about some of the information he uncovered and sharing his insights about the company after working on the book.
Listen to the show above or via this MP3 file.
In this extended podcast version of the show, we keep him around for a few extra questions, including his thoughts on Bezos’ recent acquisition of the Washington Post.
