Lighting is important for any type of content development, as well as making video calls seem their best. Although video lights can be useful, most are not designed to sit on top of your monitor close to your camera. The Logitech Litra Glow is a screen-friendly video light that uses a flexible monitor attachment, USB power, and optional software control to provide optimal illumination for your camera with minimal effort and desk space. A Long Clip in a Small Box

The Litra Glow is a plastic box with a translucent white front and a dark gray back that measures 3.6 by 3.6 by 1.0 inches (HWD). With a slight diffusing effect, the front panel lets light shine through. A power button, brightness and color temperature rockers, and a USB-C port are located on the back. The USB-C to USB-A cable is five feet long.

The light is attached to a 7-inch-long plastic monitor clip with a rotating and tilting hinge. A large hook at the top folds up to brace against the front and top borders of your screen, while a rubber foot at the bottom secures the clip. The length of the clip is due to an inbuilt arm that may glide upward, raising the light above the top of your screen and webcam. The cable is kept tucked beneath the clip by a small slot on the bottom of the arm. Unscrew the light from the clip to reveal a quarter-inch threaded hole for mounting it on a tripod or other mount.

Software and alterations

You can use the Litra Glow by just putting it into any powered USB port and pushing the buttons on the back, or you can utilize Logitech’s G Hub software by plugging it into a USB port on your computer. Both ways allow you to change the brightness to 250 lumens and the color temperature to 2,700K to 6,500K. G Hub also has a few presets that enable you switch between warm candlelight and dazzling cool blue with a single click. When you find the perfect settings for different rooms and times of day, you may save your own presets.

Software sliders make it easier to adjust the brightness than pressing and holding physical keys, and a camera view lets you eyeball the settings as you go. The webcam view only works if the camera isn’t being used by anything else; if the camera is being used by OBS or any other software, you’ll have to look through it as you adjust the illumination.

Results That Shine

I tested the Litra Glow in a relatively dark room, installed it on top of my monitor, about a foot to the left of my Razer Kiyo Pro webcam (during the day, with the lights off and curtains closed, with my monitor also adjusted to be dark). The light gives a pleasant glow that fills in my face and helps to counteract the light streaming in through the curtain behind me at its dimmest, and it brightens me up pretty sharply and hurts my eyes at its brightest. The light’s color temperature ranges from a very chilly 6,500K to an excessively warm, almost incandescent 2,700K.

On my display, the Litra Glow performed admirably. Being able to adjust not only the brightness and temperature of the light, but also its height and distance from my webcam, allowed me to adequately illuminate my face without it looking blown out or out of sync with the surrounding light and walls. For a more diffused look, I could even tilt the lamp far back to bounce it off the ceiling. However, it’s still a strong light emanating from a little square, which means that unless I positioned my face at a very specific angle, reflections formed when I wore glasses, independent of the light’s position on the display.

To be honest, unless I bend my head a certain way, the light from my monitor usually shows up in my glasses. Direct illumination necessitates a huge diffuser to spread the light over a large area, which the Litra Glow’s size and top-of-monitor design prevent. Furthermore, the Litra Glow is less apparent than many of the harsh, too bright ring lights that are popular today.

Lighting that is Monitor-Friendly

For content creators with a limited budget and/or space, the Logitech Litra Glow is a versatile and affordable video light. A monitor clip allows you to attach the light to the top of your monitor or laptop screen, as close or as far away from your webcam as the screen allows, eliminating the need for a tripod on your desk. Its adjustable height and rotating, tilting hinge allow you to position the light at practically any angle to meet your shot, and software control allows you to alter brightness and color temperature on the fly without touching the light.

USB-powered video lights are less expensive, although they aren’t usually built for webcam use. They’re often designed to attach to the accessory shoe of a digital camera, and getting one set up to operate properly on top of your display or elsewhere on your desk can quickly add to the cost. Other monitor-mounted lights exist, but they nearly never include height adjustments or software control.
