This week, we’re joined by a special guest for our regular Week In Geek news roundup. Sarah Lacy is a longtime journalist, well-known to many in the tech community as the founder of investigative tech news site Pando.

She now has a new venture: Chairman Mom, an online community for working mothers to share advice and support. Lacy describes the company as a way to counteract abuse and “mommy-shaming” that women experience so often in the online world.

“Imagine women go to a community online, and walk away every time feeling better about themselves,” Lacy said. She says the site “rebrands working motherhood as what it is: A badass, aspirational thing.” The company is a subscription-only, $5 a month service that lets women ask and answer questions about parenthood, work, kids and everything in between.

Lacy also joins us to talk about some of the week’s biggest news, starting with a jaw-dropping $335 million funding round for bike and scooter sharing company Lime. Some of the funding comes from Uber, and the companies also struck a deal on Lime’s electric scooters: The scooters will now have Uber branding and be available to rent through the Uber app.

The scooters are rolling out to cities around the country, including San Francisco. Lacy gives us her intense perspective on the backlash against the scooters in San Francisco, where she lives, along with Uber’s involvement in the new fad.

On a related note, there’s been an upswing in anti-Amazon sentiment (and graffiti) in Seattle over the past few months. We dig into why the city is so divided over its largest employer and the state of homelessness in the West Coast tech hubs.

On the Random Channel: The demise of the Costco Polish Dog; Seattle’s new anti-straw law; and the Incredibles 2 (spoiler-free).

This week’s stories:

  • Tech journalist and Chairman Mom founder Sarah Lacy on the power of being polarizing
  • With $335M in fresh cash, Lime is rolling out electric scooters in the Uber app
  • Photos: Graffiti targeting Amazon and Jeff Bezos illustrates animosity toward tech giant in Seattle
